A useful fit for

A distinct 2014 Fisher-Price support model for households who need an earlier battery-powered swing with simple on-product controls and a detachable manual rocker. Mattel lists the swing/infant-seat mode separately from the higher-limit toddler-rocker mode.

The main tradeoff

Four D cells are required and not supplied; no outlet operation, axis direction, dimensions or present retail offer is established. The 25 lb powered-swing/infant-seat maximum is lower than the 40 lb manual-rocker ceiling, and the exact unit label, parts, restraint and manual need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can CCL87 run without a wall outlet?

The exact CCL87 manual requires four D/LR20 alkaline cells for operation, and the support record says four D batteries. It documents no AC adapter arrangement. The battery-powered swing has six on-unit speed settings; the detachable rocker is a separate manual setup.

Does CCL87 have a published 40 lb swing capacity?

No. The linked manual lists a 25 lb maximum for swing and infant-seat use, and a separate 40 lb maximum for the toddler-rocker mode. Do not carry the rocker limit over to powered swinging; stop sooner if the child attempts to climb out or cannot meet the mode-specific rules.

Can the CCL87 pad be machine washed?

Yes, the exact CCL87 manual says to remove the pad, wash it separately in cold water on a gentle cycle without bleach, then tumble dry on low and remove promptly. Wipe the frame, toy bar and toys separately; do not treat every component as washable.

The CCL87 is an earlier Fisher-Price swing whose name can make its three uses sound interchangeable. The instructions show otherwise: the seat mounts on a powered swing frame, detaches as an infant seat, and can be used as a manually rocked toddler chair. Each arrangement has its own limit and setup rule. This is a source-based assessment of model CCL87, not a hands-on test or a claim about any particular secondhand unit.

Three arrangements, not one higher-capacity swing

Mattel's U.S. support record identifies CCL87 as a 2014 Fisher-Price 3-in-1 Swing 'n Rocker and links a CCL87 instruction sheet. The distinction that matters most is capacity by mode. The manual sets a 25 lb maximum for the powered swing and infant-seat use, while the toddler-rocker configuration is listed up to 40 lb. That 40 lb figure is not a reason to keep using the swing after its 25 lb limit. Nor does it override the earlier developmental stop: discontinue swing use if the child tries to climb out.

The seat is removable from the frame. When detached, it can be placed as an infant seat or converted into a rocking chair. Those are floor-based uses, not a carrier: the manual warns against lifting the occupied seat and says not to use the toy bar as a handle. Before buying an old offer, make sure the seat-to-frame fittings, restraint, pad and support pieces are present and in serviceable condition; the small support image is not a kit checklist.

What the powered mode offers—and what it does not

The swing requires four D/LR20 alkaline batteries, which the manual says are not included. It has six speed settings, a power switch and separate music/sound and volume controls on the product. The official description also lists 16 songs, soothing nature sounds, a removable toy bar and SmartSwing weight-sensing technology; those are manufacturer feature claims, not measured performance or a guarantee that a baby will settle. Mattel describes a four-hour automatic swing stop and music/sound shutoff after roughly 20 minutes. The manual does not identify the direction of travel or support a multi-axis claim, and the checked exact sources do not document an outlet adapter, app or voice control. Do not infer those features from another Fisher-Price swing.

Fabric care and room-fit gaps

The manual allows the seat pad to be machine washed separately in cold water on a gentle cycle, without bleach, then tumble-dried separately on low and removed promptly. The swing and seat frames, toy bar and toys have a different wipe-clean instruction: use a mild solution and damp cloth, rinse off residue and do not immerse the frames. That difference is important on a used product, where the pad may be missing or replaced. Confirm the care label on the exact pad before laundering it.

The reviewed CCL87 support page and manual do not publish assembled width, depth, height, product weight or the moving seat's clearance envelope. The frame appears full-sized in the thumbnail, but a 110 by 73 pixel image cannot be used to estimate fit. Measure the exact assembled unit if room is tight, leave space beyond its static footprint for swing movement and caregiver access, and plan a safe cord-free battery location.

Limits and supervised-use rules

Mattel's page and instructions support use from birth, but that phrase is conditional. In swing mode, keep the seat fully reclined until the infant is at least four months old and can hold the head up without help. The manual reserves the upright seat position for a child who can sit up unaided. Use the restraint and remain close; the current support page carries the warning that swings are not for sleep or unsupervised use. The older instructions also say this is not a substitute for a crib or bassinet for prolonged sleep. If a child falls asleep, move them to an appropriate firm, flat sleep surface.

For detached rocker use, the manual says to keep using the restraint until a child can climb in and out without assistance and limits that mode to 40 lb. The 25 lb swing/infant-seat maximum remains the stricter figure for those configurations. Check the exact product number on the unit and its manual, inspect the restraint and structural joints, and check current Mattel and CPSC notices against the unit's exact date and identity. A targeted search did not establish recall clearance, and no current retail offer was verified. Compare the CCL87 label—not just the shared product name—before relying on any parts or instructions.

Three practical questions

  • Can I use it without an outlet? Yes, the CCL87 instructions require four D cells for operation; the batteries are not included.
  • Can the swing carry a 40 lb child? No. The powered swing and infant-seat modes are listed to 25 lb; 40 lb belongs to the separate toddler-rocker mode.
  • Is the pad washable? The manual says the pad is machine washable with cold, gentle, no-bleach and low-heat instructions; the frame and toys are wiped separately.
