Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can DKD85 use batteries or a wall outlet for powered swinging?
Both options appear in the exact DKD85 instructions: the original configuration includes a 6 V AC adapter for a wall outlet, while four D/LR20 alkaline batteries are an alternative and are not included. Use no extension cord. For a used offer, verify that the correct adapter is actually present before planning around outlet operation.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the seat rock without the powered swing arm?
Yes. The manual says to lift the seat from the arm and rotate it for manual head-to-toe or side-to-side rocking. That detached arrangement has no powered motion; use it only on the floor, never on a bed, sofa or raised surface, and stop when the child can sit up unassisted. The overall manual ceiling is 25 lb.

Mattel lists use from birth, but the swing must remain fully reclined until the child is at least four months old and can hold the head up without help. Stop sooner at climbing attempts; the ceiling is 25 lb. The detached rocker stops when the child can sit up unassisted. The manual allows cold machine washing with mild detergent for the removed pad and body support, no bleach, and low tumble drying; wipe the frame, restraint and mobile separately.

This assessment covers U.S. Fisher-Price model DKD85, the 4 Motion Cradle 'n Swing with Smart Connect. Mattel reports a 2016 release and links the DKD85-2C70-G1 instructions. The support number is not a retail SKU or proof of a current offer or complete used package. This is source-based, not hands-on; features from other Fisher-Price swings are not transferred.
“Four motion” means two powered directions and two rocker directions
With the seat attached to the swing arm, rotating it selects side-to-side cradle movement or head-to-toe movement. These are two alternative powered directions, not simultaneous motion. Lift the seat from the arm and it becomes a manual floor rocker with two selectable rocking directions and no motor. The four-motion name therefore does not mean four automatic motions.
The manual also describes a fully reclined and an upright backrest position. Follow the age and head-control warning for the swing arrangement: keep the seat fully reclined until the child is at least four months old and can hold the head up without help. The newborn insert and padded headrest are identified as supplied features in the original model description; inspect an individual offer to confirm they are present and the correct parts.
Outlet and battery power are alternatives
The manual specifies either the original included AC adapter (120–240 V AC input, 6 V DC output) or four D (LR20) alkaline cells, which are not included. Use the adapter at a wall outlet only, without an extension cord. A used unit may be missing it, so inspect the actual cord, connector and battery compartment rather than relying on the product-only image.
Six on-product speed settings, power, music/sound, volume and mobile-light controls remain part of the documented configuration. Music and sounds switch off after about 30 minutes and may be restarted; that is an audio shutoff, not a safety timer or permission for unattended use.
Smart Connect is a historical feature, not a current buying promise
The 2016 manual describes pairing a phone and adjusting motion and media through Smart Connect. Mattel's exact technical page says support would end February 21, 2022. That date has passed; the older manual does not establish that the app can still be installed or paired on a current device. This assessment does not count DKD85 as a dependable present-day phone-app choice. An adjacent Smart Cycle notice is not treated as evidence about this swing. Local controls are separate.
Two uses, two sets of stop conditions
Mattel lists swing use from birth, but the manual requires the restraint and a fully reclined position until both four months and independent head control. Stop when the child tries to climb out; about nine months is only an approximate reference. The 25 lb maximum never overrides an earlier developmental stop. No minimum weight is stated.
As a detached rocker, the seat is for floor use only, never on a raised or soft surface such as a bed, sofa or cushion. Stop when the child can sit up unassisted. The manual requires close adult supervision and says the product is not intended for unsupervised or prolonged sleep; it is not a crib or bassinet. A from-birth statement cannot override these mode-specific warnings.
Wash the named fabrics, not the whole assembly
The manual permits machine washing the removable seat pad and body support in cold water with mild detergent, without bleach; tumble dry on low and remove promptly. Wipe the seat, restraint, mobile and swing frame separately with a mild cleaner and damp cloth, then rinse residue away. Before buying a used unit, check the pad, harness, restraint clips, battery cover, swing arm and adapter lead for damage, and confirm that any included insert belongs with DKD85.
Room fit, package condition and model identification
The sources do not publish assembled or folded dimensions, product weight or moving clearance. The official thumbnail is not a scale drawing or package list. Measure the assembled unit, leave space for the chosen direction and caregiver access, and route the cord per the manual. The detachable seat is documented as a floor rocker, not a travel carrier.
For an older offer, match the DKD85 stamp to its manual, check the seat locks, verify the adapter or battery setup, and check current manufacturer/CPSC notices for that unit. This review does not establish recall clearance, current availability or app compatibility.
Three practical DKD85 questions
- Does DKD85 need batteries, or can it use an outlet? Either is documented: the original package includes a 6 V adapter, while four D/LR20 alkaline cells are an alternative and not included. Verify the adapter on a used offer; use a wall outlet without an extension cord.
- Can the seat rock without the powered frame? Yes. Lift it from the arm and rotate for manual head-to-toe or side-to-side rocking. Use only on the floor, never on a soft or raised surface, and stop when the child can sit up unassisted; the ceiling is 25 lb.
- Does Smart Connect make this a current app-controlled pick? No reliable current-app claim is supported. Mattel's DKD85 technical page says support was to end in 2022; verify present availability before relying on it. Local controls are separate.
