Can Pink Petals CDG12 swing in two directions?
The CDG12 manual describes rotating the unlocked seat tube to choose side-to-side or front-to-back movement. These are selectable directions, not simultaneous two-axis motion; the manual does not provide a movement-clearance measurement.

No. Its exact manual lists an originally included 6 V AC adapter and an alternative four-D/LR20 alkaline-cell arrangement. The batteries are not included, and a secondhand offer may be missing its adapter, so check the exact package and battery compartment.

Mattel lists use from birth, but the manual requires the seat to stay fully reclined until the baby is at least four months old and can hold the head up without help. Use the restraint and supervise an awake child; stop sooner if the child attempts to climb out, even below the 25 lb maximum. No minimum child weight is published.

This assessment covers Fisher-Price Pink Petals Cradle 'n Swing model CDG12. Mattel's U.S. support page reports a 2014 release and links the English/Spanish CDG12pr-0821 manual. It establishes the model, not a current offer or the condition and completeness of a secondhand unit. This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on test; features from similar Fisher-Price swings are not assumed to carry over.
Choose a direction; do not read that as two motions at once
CDG12 offers two selectable powered directions. Its manual says to press the seat-tube release and rotate the tube to choose side-to-side or front-to-back movement; Mattel calls the latter head-to-toe. It does not describe simultaneous motion or publish a movement envelope. Check clearance around the exact unit rather than treating the support thumbnail as a scale drawing.
The page lists six speeds and describes Smart Swing Technology as sensing the child's weight and starting without a push. This is not measured performance or a guarantee that a baby will settle. It also lists 16 songs, soothing sounds, a mirrored globe and three soft butterflies; these features do not replace safe positioning or supervision.
Outlet and battery operation are separate alternatives
The CDG12 manual lists an original adapter with 120–240 V AC input and 6 V DC output, and an alternative four-D/LR20 alkaline-cell arrangement. It says the cells are not included. The adapter belongs in a standard wall outlet, not a ceiling outlet; the manual also says not to use an extension cord, not to connect more power supplies than recommended, and to disconnect the adapter before cleaning. A used swing can be missing its original adapter even when the support page shows that it came with the original configuration. Check the label and connector on the exact piece and do not substitute a generic adapter based on appearance alone.
Power, speed, music, sounds, volume and the mobile have on-product controls. The manual says the swing stops after about four hours and the mobile/music/sounds after about 20 minutes; a button restarts them. Neither is a sleep timer. App, remote and voice control are not established.
Backrest and swing orientation are not the same adjustment
Mattel's description lists two recline positions and separately names three seat-facing positions—right, center and left. The manual confirms two backrest settings, reclined and upright, but does not map facing positions to swing directions. Do not read three facing positions as three recline angles or three powered axes.
The manufacturer describes a removable cushioned head/body support for newborns and smaller infants. “From birth” is not permission to use any angle: keep the seat fully reclined until the child is both at least four months old and able to hold the head up unaided. Use the restraint. The manual sets a 25 lb maximum and says to stop sooner if an active child attempts to climb out. Mattel's updated warning says to stay nearby, never use it for sleep or unsupervised use, and move a sleeping baby to a firm, flat sleep surface.
Wash the pad and clean the rest separately
Remove the seat pad from the seat and restraint before machine-washing it in cold water with mild detergent; do not bleach, tumble dry low and remove promptly. Wipe the seat, restraint, mobile and motorized frame separately with a mild cleaner and damp cloth, then rinse residue. Do not machine-wash the assembled swing. On used units, inspect pad seams and restraint, and check the care label on any replacement textile.
Folding is a storage feature, not proof of portability
The product page says the legs fold for storage and room-to-room use; the manual shows releasing the frame buttons and leaning it against a wall. Neither source gives body or folded dimensions, weight or movement clearance. Measure the exact swing where it will be used and leave room for movement, caregiver access and a safe outlet path; folding alone does not prove convenient carrying.
Check the label, adapter and current safety notices
Match any earlier offer to a CDG12 label and CDG12pr-0821 instructions. Inspect the frame, restraint, pad, battery door and adapter; the manual warns against using broken or missing parts or substituting others. A text search of Mattel's captured recall page did not return CDG12, but that is not complete recall history or serial/date clearance. Check current Mattel/CPSC notices for the unit. The small official image identifies the model only; it is not a package or condition report.
Three practical CDG12 questions
- Can it swing side-to-side and front-to-back? Yes, the exact manual shows how to unlock and rotate the seat tube to select either direction. It does not describe simultaneous two-axis movement.
- Can it run without an outlet? Yes. The manual lists an original 6 V adapter and a four-D-cell alternative. The alkaline cells are not included, and a used offer may not have its adapter.
- Is the Pink Petals swing suitable for a newborn? Mattel lists use from birth, but the manual requires full recline until both four months of age and independent head control. Use the restraint, supervise awake use, and stop at attempted climbing or 25 lb, whichever comes first.
