Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does “multi-direction” mean the swing changes its movement axis?
Yes. Graco says the seat can face right, front or left to swing side-to-side or front-to-back. That manufacturer description supports the multi-axis tag; it does not quantify the moving seat’s clearance.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the detached bouncer keep the swing’s 25-pound limit?
No. The manual lists a separate 18-pound and 27-inch maximum for bouncer mode and says to stop when the baby tries to sit up or reaches 18 pounds, whichever happens first.
Explore this need in the finder →Are batteries an alternative to plugging in the swing?
No battery-powered swing motion is documented. The manual uses the wall plug for swing operation and describes three AA batteries for the separate sound/vibration module.
Explore this need in the finder →The Graco Soothe ’n Sway LX is a two-arrangement swing-and-bouncer set, not a single seat with one shared capacity. This review covers the Derby U.S. configuration, model 2140066. Graco’s exact page and linked 2022 manual support a powered swing with multi-direction seat positioning and a separate removable manual bouncer. Their weight, height and developmental limits differ; the swing’s 25-pound figure does not apply to the detached bouncer.
Multi-direction swing; detachable floor bouncer
Graco says the seat can face right, front or left so the powered swing can move side-to-side or front-to-back. That is stronger evidence for more than one movement direction than a listing that merely names several soothing patterns. Swing speed is adjustable, and the seat has three recline positions. The exact manual gives the powered swing a 25-pound maximum and 30-inch maximum height; it says to stop when the child attempts to climb out, reaches either limit, or approaches the manual’s approximate nine-month guide, whichever applies first. Always use the restraint. Keep the seat fully reclined until the infant is at least four months old and can hold their head up without help, remain nearby, and move a sleeping infant to a firm, flat sleep surface. The materials reviewed do not expressly say “from birth,” so a 5.5-pound lower figure on the page is not treated as proof of birth-start use.
When detached, the seat becomes a floor bouncer with its own 18-pound and 27-inch limits. The manual says to stop when the baby starts trying to sit up or reaches 18 pounds, whichever comes first. Use it only on the floor, keep the restraint snug, and do not treat it as a sleep surface or vehicle carrier. The bouncer adds portability, but the manual’s warnings and the exact handle instructions still govern how it may be moved; never carry the swing with a child inside.
Power sources are not interchangeable
The swing motor uses the supplied AC adapter. That makes an outlet-side powered-swing setup the documented arrangement; the manual does not support running the swing motion from batteries. Separately, its vibration and sound module takes three AA cells. Those batteries power the module’s vibration/sound functions, not the swing motor, and the reviewed documents do not establish whether cells are included. A shopper who needs battery-operated swing movement should not count the vibration compartment as a battery swing.
Controls are on the product: the manual describes a speed dial and local controls for vibration and sound. The product page lists six songs and sounds, two vibration speeds, a removable infant insert, a toy bar and a five-point harness. The outlet cord still needs a safe route, away from the baby and from places where it can be walked on, trapped or damaged. Do not use an extension cord.
Care and room fit
Graco lists the Derby body at 29.3 inches wide, 36.5 inches high and 36.5 inches deep, and 17.95 pounds. Width and front-to-back depth can help reject a product that is too large for the intended spot, but neither value describes how much open space the moving seat needs. Measure the assembled frame, the motion envelope, the cord path and the route through doors separately.
The product page and manual direct the owner to the care tag for seat-pad washing and warn against bleach; the manual specifies household soap and warm water for the frame. That does not confirm a machine-washable seat. The separate sound/vibration module, frame, insert and fabric should not be assigned the same cleaning method without their own instructions.
How it differs from similar Graco combinations
The useful distinction is the pairing of documented two-direction swing movement with a detachable bouncer, rather than an assumption that every Graco seat turns the same way. DuetSoothe also documents side-to-side and front-to-back movement, but its separate rocker is an 18-pound mode and its swing has a 30-pound ceiling. DuetConnect’s exact official answer does not claim a multi-direction swing. Soothe My Way has its own named motion patterns and detached rocker. Compare the particular mode and source-supported limit you need, not a shared word such as “multi-use.”
Who it may suit—and what remains unconfirmed
The Soothe ’n Sway LX is a reasonable shortlist candidate when multi-direction powered motion, local controls, an outlet and a removable bouncer are useful. It is not a fit for a battery-powered swing requirement or for someone who needs confirmed machine-washable textiles. Newborn support from birth is also not established by the materials reviewed. Keep the swing’s 25-pound/30-inch/climb-out stop separate from the bouncer’s 18-pound/27-inch/sit-up stop, and never use either arrangement for sleep or unattended time.
Before comparing an offer, verify model 2140066 and Derby, the AC adapter, the bouncer components, harness and insert, the seat’s current care tag, and the full instructions for the specific unit. Graco’s exact page showed the item unavailable when checked; that is a dated manufacturer page state, not a statement about present stock elsewhere. A targeted search of CPSC recall listings for the exact model and name did not surface a matching notice, but it cannot clear a particular unit. This review is based on the maker’s page and manual rather than hands-on testing; it makes no claim about noise, ease of assembly or an infant’s preference.
