A useful fit for

A household that wants documented dual-axis powered motion, outlet operation, on-unit and phone-app controls, machine-washable seat textiles, and an earlier-generation 25 lb capacity ceiling; a static body footprint is listed but does not establish motion clearance.

The main tradeoff

Mains power only; no battery swing mode is documented. The manufacturer insert is optional but sold separately, and a manufacturer-confirmed from-birth starting age is not established. Stop at 25 lb or climbing attempts, whichever comes first; use the required recline, harness, floor, sleep and supervision instructions. This is an earlier generation, and used-unit completeness and condition must be checked.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Which MamaRoo model is this, and can the current model 2001 manual be used instead?

Check the underside label. Model 1046 has its own 4011606-4: NA regional manual. Current UPPAbaby model 2001-MRO-NA is a separate generation; do not transfer its dimensions, parts, limits or accessories.

Does MamaRoo 1046 need a wall outlet, or can it run on batteries?

The 2024 4moms product page specifies an AC adapter and no batteries. Plan for a floor location near a suitable outlet, keep the supplied cord out of reach and follow the manual’s power instructions.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is this model documented for use from birth with a newborn insert?

The manual permits the 4moms newborn insert, but the fact sheet says it is sold separately and the exact offer may not include one. The manufacturer material reviewed here does not explicitly verify a from-birth starting age, so the finder will not treat model 1046 as a confirmed from-birth match.

Explore this need in the finder →
What is the swing’s documented upper limit?

Stop at 25 lb or when the child attempts to climb out (about nine months), whichever is first. The age is approximate; the developmental stop may come sooner.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I machine-wash the entire swing?

No. The seat fabric and toy balls are machine-washable cold on gentle, without bleach, then tumble-dry separately on low. Wipe the base, seat parts and toy bar; do not immerse them and unplug before base cleaning.

2022 North American model 1046 · research-based assessment, not hands-on testing

The 4moms MamaRoo Multi-Motion Baby Swing is a plug-in, multi-axis infant swing with five movements, five speeds and four built-in sounds. This assessment covers 2022 model 1046, not later UPPAbaby model 2001-MRO-NA. I have not used or tested either product; this is a research-based comparison.

Start with the number on the base

4moms’ support center links the exact 1046 manual, North/Central/South American edition 4011606-4: NA, ASTM F2088-22. Its version history says the 2022 model added Bluetooth music streaming and voice control. Current UPPAbaby product records identify a different U.S. model, 2001-MRO-NA; do not transfer its parts, app behavior or use limits to 1046.

The official PDF endpoint was not readable in this research session, although the manufacturer links it and indexed manual text plus support articles expose the limits summarized here. This review is not a substitute for the exact delivered instructions. Check the base label and full manual before assembly or use; ask the manufacturer about any mismatched model or harness.

Multi-axis movement, with several control routes

The manufacturer describes dual-axis travel, up/down and side-to-side, through car ride, kangaroo, tree swing, rock-a-bye and wave patterns. It lists five speeds and four sounds. Model 1046 adds Bluetooth music streaming and Wi-Fi voice compatibility with Alexa and Google Home (beta). On-unit, app and voice controls are different routes; none makes this a battery-powered swing.

This feature set may suit a household seeking multiple movement patterns and phone adjustment, but it cannot predict whether a baby will settle. Check present app and phone compatibility; software support can change. Built-in sounds and phone music streaming are separate functions.

Outlet power and body dimensions

The 2024 4moms page specifies an AC adapter, no batteries, a 15 lb product weight and dimensions of 26.25 × 23.5 × 35.5 inches without axis labels. Kohl’s identifies model 1046 and labels them 35.5 H × 23.5 W × 26.25 L; it reports 15.5 lb. I retain the manufacturer’s weight and disclose the half-pound conflict.

Use 23.5 W × 26.25 D only for static body planning—not the seat’s sweep or a clearance calculation. Leave a clear floor area and keep the cord away from the child. This is not a battery travel swing.

Capacity, recline and newborn caveats

4moms says to stop when the child reaches 25 pounds (11.3 kilograms) or starts trying to climb out—about nine months—whichever happens first. The age is approximate; the weight and developmental stop matter more. Use and snugly adjust the restraint every time. The manual permits a three- or five-point configuration and requires changing to the five-point arrangement when the baby can sit up without help.

The manual says to keep the seat fully reclined until the infant is at least four months and can hold their head up unaided. A 4moms newborn insert may be used but the fact sheet says it is sold separately. The manufacturer material reviewed does not confirm a “from birth” starting age, so the retailer’s claim is not treated as proof. The insert is optional; do not add pillows, blankets or aftermarket padding, and verify package contents.

Use only while awake and supervised, on the floor. It is not for sleep or unsupervised use; move a sleeping child to a firm, flat sleep surface.

Cleaning is specific to the part

The manual allows cold gentle machine-washing of the seat fabric and toy balls, without bleach; tumble-dry separately on low and remove promptly. Refit the fabric in the correct orientation. Wipe the base, seat pieces and toy bar with a mild solution and soft damp cloth; do not immerse, and unplug before cleaning the base. Check replacement-fabric care labels separately.

Recall and secondhand checks

Manufacturer recall information distinguishes model 1046 from MamaRoo models 4M-005, 1026 and 1037 named in the 2022 CPSC notice; RockaRoo is a separate recall. This is not a safety certification for an individual used swing. Match the base label to current recall guidance, inspect the harness and connections, and verify the adapter and any expected insert. A listing title is not enough.

Who should keep it on the shortlist?

Consider the 1046 if powered multi-axis movement, outlet power, app control and washable seat textiles matter and the 25 lb/climb-out stop fits your plans. Its body measurements are only a first screen; leave movement clearance. Do not choose it for required from-birth support, battery use or exact package contents without confirming those details. For a used unit, verify the label, parts, instructions and condition in person.
